Can CBD benefit my pet’s health?
If you’ve been following our blogs, you’ve been able to learn about the endless benefits CBD can have on your health. From minor pain relief to more serious ailments such as arthritis or MS, CBD has gained more recognition in its use for health issues. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to stop there. And just as CDB has helped us humans, your pets can also reap the same health-boosting benefits.
But how?
CBD interacts directly with receptors in the endocannabinoid system to help regulate a wide range of bodily functions. And this exact system also exists within mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles. Considering the similarity of the endocannabinoid receptors in both humans and animals, it’s fair to assume CBD could treat certain conditions in animals as well as it does for humans. But we don’t want you to treat your animals without properly explaining the various benefits.
Here’s how it helps:
CBD acts on endocannabinoid receptors commonly found in the central and peripheral nervous systems, which help maintain balance in the body and keep it in a normal healthy state. CBD is non-psychoactive, so animals will not receive a “high” sensation. Further, cannabis-infused products that are derived from the feminized CBD flower and select terpenes help with:
1. Pain
As a pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory agent, CBD fights inflammation in nerves and joints by activating the pathways of CB2 receptors. Joint pain and arthritis are frequently found in a majority of breeds. Similar to humans, animal joint pain flare ups are due to the cartilage wearing down and bones rubbing, that cause inflammation in the area. But with the use of CBD oils, this pain can be minimized to make our pets much more comfortable.
2. Anxiety Reduction
There is a wide range of reasons why animals experience anxiety, with joint pain, fear and loneliness just being a few. Separation anxiety is the most common condition found in pets, mainly dogs, and its effects can take a toll on our pets both mentally and physically. Research has shown that CBD promotes the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus, which helps control anxiety and its symptoms.
3. Reduction of Seizure Symptoms
Seizures are essentially caused by the abnormal firing of neurons in the brain. Up to 5% of dogs alone suffer from seizures, but the most common form of medications cause extreme damage to animals’ livers and other organs. Fortunately, CBD provides a natural, effective solution. A study has shown CBD helped reduce both the frequency and severity of seizures, sometimes by as much as 45%. Once processed by the ECS, CBD has the ability to affect specific receptors and channels in the brain that can help ease the rapid firing of neurons, and thereby help control seizures.
Should you try it?
While you shouldn’t expect CBD to be the ultimate cure for your or your pet’s health issues, it can definitely aid in the road to a better quality of life. Our goal is to ensure a comfortable life with enhanced health through the proper use of CBD.
With that, we’d like to remind everyone that our pets are much smaller than us, therefore they are much more sensitive to stimuli than we are. As with everything we put in our own and our pets’ bodies, be sure to use CBD carefully and responsibly.
Check the ingredients list of cannabis infused products to ensure no chemical additives have been added (including lidocaine, camphor, etc.). Pets are such significant companions for all of us, we want to be sure they have healthy and comfortable lives.
